After learning about mysterious wagons moving Pokémon no one would miss at Ignatius's behest towards 'Terminal 2' near Blaguarro, Andre, Dave, Koa, Ridley and Wes volunteer to go on a scouting mission to find out where the wagons are going. They get more than they bargained for when the wagon is attacked midway by one of the 'Witching Beasts' that Jaak described.

The 'Witching Beasts' are Shadow Pokémon; a Shadow Charmeleon attacks the wagon, murders the Rattata driver, chases off the Mudsdale pulling it, and makes short work of the PCs, nearly killing Andre before the Voice somehow steps in, giving it a strange moment of clarity that causes it to flee.
The Voice knows about Shadow Pokémon and says they're Pokémon who have their hearts closed to others. It also says it felt as if it could become like the Charmeleon if they touched, and that Dave's aura was tainted after being bitten by it but that the corruption was slowly going away.
